Dedham Square Streetscape Project Update
Last year, DSC launched its "Engineering the Future" campaign which raised over $25,000 in private contributions to fund an engineering study to help pave the way for a grant to fund major streetscape improvements to the Square including safer crosswalks, improved traffic flow, brick-lined sidewalks and gas lamps. Under the direction of Gates, Leighton and Associates, a landscape engineering firm specializing in downtown streetscape design, DSC continues to work closely with several town officials to complete a physical survey of the Square. Last February, over 100 residents attended DSC's public input meeting at town hall to share their ideas and suggestions on how to improve Dedham's historic downtown. On June 24th, we held our second public input meeting where we shared renderings of proposed streetscape improvements with the community for their feedback. Discussed at this meeting were ideas on ways to improve traffic, create more public green space and finding a balance between the needs of both pedestrians and motorists.

Shown here are two different perspectives of the Square which also demonstrate the potential of what could be developed in the town's Keystone Parking Lot as part the Square's Master Plan. To learn more about the development of the Keystone lot, you can download The Cecil Report.

The final report from Gates, Leighton will allow the town to apply for a million dollar plus Public Works Economic Development grant with a goal of transforming the streetscape of the Square over the next decade. In addition, DSC and the town will be identifying best practices used by other towns on ways to find creative financing options to fund such projects.
