Each and every citizen of Dedham has a stake in preserving and restoring Dedham Square. It should be the gathering place for this and future generations. A strong and thriving downtown is essential to the quality of life for all residents and, if for no better reason than to enhance the pride of living in Dedham, the historic nature of the Square must be preserved and revitalized. While the Dedham Square Circle focuses on Dedham Square, we are keenly aware that the downtown is the “heart” of the greater community. No matter which part of Dedham you reside in, the Square is everyone’s neighborhood.
Square merchants, business owners, property owners and the Town also have a vested interest in the Square’s revitalization. A vibrant downtown benefits the town as a whole by sustaining or increasing property values, instilling a source of pride for residents, and helping to attract future businesses and investors. Conversely, a downtown with empty storefronts, deteriorating buildings and no foot traffic, can be detrimental to a town’s economic stability and tends to have a ripple effect on the town’s other commercial areas.
