Faces in the Square: The Cahills

Type:  Faces in the Square

Dedham resident Mike Cahill, his daughter, Lily, 2, and son, Jack 5, and his wife, Elissa Booth, are frequent visitors to Dedham Square. We caught up with them one day while enjoying some tasty treats at Mocha Java.

What neighborhood of Dedham you live in?
Oakdale

How long have you lived in Dedham?
Since 2003

Where are you originally from?
Melbourne, Australia.  I moved to the U.S. in 2000 for work.

How often do you come to Dedham Square?
At least once during the week and once during the weekend, usually with kids in tow.

What do you like most about the Square?
The coffee and the people!

What businesses do you frequent the most and why?

Mocha Java for coffee and conversation, Mimi’s News for the New York Times, Paradise Café for late night treats, The Blue Bunny for the kids, Ron’s Ice Cream for their Strawbana (it’s actually a fruit and ice cream milkshake, and it’s goooood!)m Café Fresh Bagel for the best bagels around, D’Angelo  for subs and Kouzina Estiatorio for hearty Greek food.

If you could change anything about Dedham Square, what would it be and why?
We love the Square, but safety is a big concern of ours, especially the mix of kids and cars. The recent approval by Town Meeting to fund improvements to the Square is exciting news – improving pedestrian safety and reducing the traffic volume, congestion and speed are important aspects of the work. For shopping, wider sidewalks all around the Square will add character and allow shopkeepers to offer outside seating during the warmer months. Also, I’d love to see a bakery/pastry shop!
