 Perry Conchinha owns the Court Side Café in Dedham Square. He purchased the restaurant last year and kept the name.
How did you end up in this line of work?
I grew up in Western Massachusetts and while going to school I always worked in restaurants. I started out bussing and waiting tables and eventually cooking. I knew that someday I would like to own my own restaurant. I knew that Court Side would be a perfect first place.
What you most about your work?
The thing I like most about Court Side is our customers. Everyone is always so pleasant and I love the fact that I can interact with them while I'm cooking. Getting out of bed in the morning is never an issue since I enjoy my line of work. Believe it or not it relaxes me!
What makes your business unique?
I think we have a quaint, cozy atmosphere with a great menu and prices. We make our own chips, hash and soups daily. The pancakes are the size of my head and the breakfast burritos are to die for! The Panini sandwiches are very popular as well.
What's a typical day like for you?
I start the morning with coffee: iced coffee, even in the winter. I drink it with a pair of oven mitts on. I start by prepping for the day by making our homemade muffins, home fries, a pot of soup, chicken salad, chips and coleslaw. I also come up with the special of day. I always try to have one.
What do you like most about Dedham Square?
I live in Westwood and wish we had a Square similar to Dedham. It has a lot to offer, great shops and restaurants and I'm happy to be part of it. There’s nothing like taking a stroll through it on a nice day or night!
